So it was just reported that the New York Liberty will move on from Kate Smith. And well one can only wonder what took so long. During her first year she seemed clearly in over her head, but the Liberty brought her back. To nobody’s surprise she still appeared over her head. Kate Smith was an awful coach whose inconsistent rotations never made sense. The benching of Amanda Zahui after her return from Europe was just bizarre. When Zahui left she was their 2nd best player, but she never played more than thirty minutes after she came back. The seeming unwillingness to play Asa Durr, the second overall pick, because she wanted to get Bria Hartley some run contributed to her downfall. Now armed with the first overall pick perhaps the Liberty can build a quality team around Tina Charles.
