The Minnesota Lynx should start tanking for Paige Bueckers

The Minnesota Lynx made a splash in Free Agency this year signing Aerial Powers, Natalie Achowa and Kayla McBride. Now these signings will undoubtedly make the Lynx an improved team. But I think it is time for the Lynx to think bigger. The only goal for the next 3-4 years for the Lynx should be to make sure they are in a position to draft Paige Bueckers

The fact is even with the latest signings the Lynx are not title ready (unless Maya Moore decides to unretire). This is a perfectly acceptable average WNBA team that will not be a blip on the radar nationally or locally. However, Paige Bueckers has started out her career at UCONN averaging over 30 points per game as a freshman. Paige Bueckers in High School would regularly sell out her high school games, creating buzz. What better for the Lynx then to get a homegrown superstar to turn it all around. With the Timberwolves floundering this would energize the Minneapolis community and Minnesota

So how do you tank for Bueckers? Start trading for first round picks in 3 to 4 years. It’s unclear if Bueckers will leave early and that is everyone’s guess. But the more picks from more teams you have the better the chance to land Bueckers. Fowles, Powers, Collier -trade them all for picks. Now I think at the end of this year is when you formally begin the tanks, but, the time to start thinking about Bueckers is now. Imagine 10-15k coming to Lynx games to watch the hometown hero. This would be like LeBron James going to Cleveland number one. The time to play is now. The Lynx need to not miss this moment to possibly own the whole state.
